Thirst

Yesterday I went about my day-to-day activities, which included watering all of the houseplants. There are all of 4, but somehow they are forgotten very easily. In fact, the only time they are watered are when they appear to be slumped over begging for a drop of water.

This day was different. The plants were not crying out for water, but rather looking very happy and healthy. I proceeded to water each one when this thought came to me:

So many Christians live their lives in this same fashion. We don’t seek out to find our daily spiritual water until we are slumped over from the thirst our busy lives have created. If we were to drink from this spiritual water daily, we wouldn't find ourselves so weakened by the extreme thirst.

By praying every day, we are strengthening our hearts for spiritual warfare that is sure to be around the bend. I think most of us, including myself, wonder why we feel so ill-equipped when we do face spiritual resistance. Just like my dehydrated plants, it takes time for them to recover even after they have received that cup of water. However, if I were to never let them get to that point, the stress on them wouldn't be so great!

Psalms 42:2

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When can I go and meet with God?
